The Olympia boys tennis team clashed with crosstown rival Capital and came out on top 3-2 Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Olympia’s top two singles players Nijel Kikuta and Nick O’Sullivan both battled with Capital for over two and a half hours and won in second-set tiebreakers by identical scorers of 6-4, 7-6.
Capital’s top doubles team of Torin Biswas and Brooks Bezanson outlasted Olympia’s Jerry Yen and Brian Yen, and Olympia’s James Smith and Evan Guan triumphed in second doubles. In third doubles, Capital’s Nicky Iannuccilli and Trevor Nichols defeated Olympia’s Brandon Phan and Tristan Reck.
“We look forward to our annual invitational with Capital every year, and this year didn’t disappoint,” Olympia head coach Chanel Nielsen said. “Both of our teams are deep, and every player, including all 12 junior varsity teams, had fun, competitive matches. Both our varsity singles players had grueling matches.”
Olympia will travel to Bonney Lake Thursday, Oct. 1, while Capital will close the week out against Timberline at home Thursday and Lincoln at home Friday.
