Olympia shut out by Yelm

Two days after the Olympia softball team racked up 26 runs against Spanaway Lake, the Bears’ bats went cold in a 9-0 loss at Yelm Thursday.

Olympia recorded just one hit against Yelm starting pitcher Leticea Romo, who dominated with 10 strikeouts in seven shutout innings. That first hit didn’t arrive until Aliyah Eberle singled with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

Yelm walked twice with the bases loaded to score two runs in the second inning, and an error on a Bailey Mounts ground ball scored the third run for the Tornados. Jocelyn Lintz drove in a run in the fifth to give Yelm a 4-0 lead.

Olympia’s best chance came in the top of the sixth, as Eberle singled and Mariah Martin walked. After they both advanced into scoring position, Romo struck out the final batter to shut down the Bears’ chances.

Yelm put the exclamation point on the game with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from Mounts.

Olympia (1-3, 1-1 South Puget Sound League) will look to bounce back quickly against Mount Si Friday at Stevens Field. Yelm (1-1, 1-1 South Puget Sound League) will host Peninsula Friday.
