Mountaineers pick up league win over Cardinals

Rainier started fast and never looked back at home on Monday, picking up an 11-1 run-rule victory over Winlock.

The first two Mountaineers to come to the plate, Yazama Gurnsey and Wyatt McIntyre, singled to get on base, sparking a three-run first inning for the Mountaineers.

They added two more in the second back-to-back RBI singles from Gurnsey and McIntyre, and in the fourth, McIntyre brought home another two runs with another knock.

Wyatt Cughan, Kaymen Larman, and Jeremy Newton followed with RBI hits of their own to make it 10-0, but Winlock picked up a run on a bases-loaded walk from Daelen Bradshaw in the fifth to extend the game.

Rainier got that run-right back in the bottom half, though, as McIntyre hit a run-rule walk-off single to end it.

McIntyre finished with four hits and four runs batted in, and Gurnsey finished with three hits and an RBI of his own. Newton added two hits and also drove in a run.

Rainier (5-6, 5-6 C2BL) and Winlock (5-8, 5-8 C2BL) will face off again on Wednesday in Winlock, but before then, the Mountaineers will head to Adna on Tuesday.
