Yelm City Councilors unanimously voted to approve vacating several utility easements on Canal Road Southeast and Grove Road Southeast during a Yelm City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
According to the Yelm City Council agenda packet for the meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Resolution No. 664 aimed to vacate easements recorded under the Thurston County Auditor’s file numbers of 4122743, 4140184, 3491192, 4122736 and 4141583.
Specifically, the resolution would vacate existing utility easements which burden the properties located at 15747 Canal Road Southeast and 9819 Grove Road Southeast. The City of Yelm has utility easements at the mentioned properties that were originally established for utility infrastructure. That utility infrastructure has since been abandoned, and new utility services have been provided through the subdivision projects Willow Glenn IV and Michael’s Landing.
With the new utility services being provided through the subdivision projects, City of Yelm staff determined that existing easements at the properties on Canal Road Southeast and Grove Road Southeast are “no longer necessary” and “may hinder future development on the affected parcels.”
“The City of Yelm has a utility easement over two properties to have the utility lines, water and sewer service lines, to serve Longmire Park,” Reza Roukerd, civil review engineer, said during the meeting. “These lines are abandoned as a result of two projects that we have, so now they have new connections from public right-of-way. The property owner, where these easements sit, requested to vacate the easement as these easements are now encumbrance for some of the lots they’re developing.”
Councilor Tracey Wood motioned to approve Resolution No. 664, and it was unanimously approved by Yelm city councilors.
