The Washington State Patrol (WSP) Bomb Squad safely recovered a confirmed explosive device on the side of the road in Thurston County on Wednesday.
A litter crew found the suspicious device on the side of the roadway in the 8800 block of Waddell Creed Road Southwest near Capitol Forest, according to information from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) and WSP.
The device was not at a residence or in anyone’s possession, TCSO Lieutenant Mike Brooks confirmed Thursday.
TCSO evacuated nearby residences and called in the WSP Bomb Squad to recover and dispose of the device.
WSP Trooper Kameron Watts confirmed on social media that the WSP Bomb Squad and TCSO were at the scene at 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29.
At 8:42 p.m., Watts posted an update confirming that the device was explosive and that it had been safely recovered.
There is no longer an active threat to safety in the area.
WSP intends to release more details “shortly,” Watts said Wednesday night.
