The Tumwater football team dominated at home on Friday night, as the T-Birds ran past Steilacoom in a 62-0 victory.
Offensively, 15 different players recorded a carry, and five different Thunderbirds caught a pass. As a team, Tumwater tallied 469 total yards, including 425 on the ground.
“The offense distributed the ball very well,” Tumwater coach William Garrow said. “The younger players who got an opportunity to compete in the game really did a nice job as well, which was fun for us to see as coaches. I thought the offensive line did a fantastic job up front with their physicality and execution, and the RB's really benefited from that.”
Grady Wall tallied 132 yards and two rushing touchdowns on just three carries, and he also logged a receiving touchdown and had an interception on defense.
Cameron Briscoe added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown on just two rushing attempts, Alex Stewart tallied 47 yards and a score, and Gavin Kaikkonen, Kason Strobl, and Rylen Kinerk each hit paydirt on the ground.
Jake Reid threw two touchdown passes, one to Wall and the other to Ethan Bello, and defensively, Kaikkonen added eight tackles, including two for loss.
Penalties were again a thorn in Tumwater’s side, as the T-Birds committed 13 penalties for 125 yards, taking multiple touchdowns off the board.
“As a head coach, I need to find a way to do a better job preparing our players so that we don't make those mistakes in the future,” Garrow said. “We have to clean that up.”
Next Friday, Sept. 18, Tumwater (2-0) will host Mount Si, an unbeaten 4A team from Snoqualmie.
“We are looking forward to an incredible test next week against a 4A Top 10 program in Mount Si,” Garrow said. “They have tremendous size, and they have some incredible athletes on their team. I have a ton of respect for their head coach Don Bartel. He is one of the best defensive coaches in the state, so it will be a great measuring stick to see where we are at as a program at this point in the season.”
