A big second-quarter from Woodland and foul trouble cost Tumwater on Friday, when the Thunderbirds lost a 2A District 4 Quarterfinal 58-47 in Woodland.
The T-Birds trailed by just five after the first, and they scored 19 points in the second, but the Beavers scored 25 points of their own to extend the lead to 11 at the break.
Tumwater got as close as two points midway through the third, but Woodland ended the game on a 18-9 run to pull away.
Tumwater battled consistent foul trouble throughout, and five T-Birds ended up fouling out.
Maesyn Williams led Tumwater with 13 points, Kamryn Wilson added 11 to go with five rebounds and three assists, and Cadynce Lee tallied eight points, five rebounds, and four steals.
Anden Demaris added seven points, 11 rebounds, and a pair of steals, while Raygen Cooper scored three points. Both Claire Buono and Malia Eggers both scored two, and Mya Burke added one.
“Our girls fought hard, and we’re proud of their grit,” Tumwater assistant coach Gabi Larson said. “We’re ready for the next one.”
Tumwater (13-10) will now face Ridgefield in the first of up to three elimination games in Ridgefield on Monday. The winner of that will face the loser of the Black Hills-Mark Morris semifinal.
