Ignited by a double-double from Anden Demaris and forcing 25 turnovers, the T-Birds secured a spot in the double elimination part of the Class 2A District 4 tournament with a 56-41 win over Hockinson on Wednesday night.
Now at 13-9 on the season, Tumwater will take on Woodland in a quarterfinal contest on Friday night. Demaris finished the night with 15 points and 14 rebounds, six of them offensive. The Thunderbirds were up three at halftime and built the lead to seven after three and eventually cracked double digits in the fourth.
Maesyn Williams paced Tumwater with 18 points. She plus Demaris, Reece Brewer, Claire Buono and Malia Eggers all finished with a plus-20 on the night. Six different players notched at least three steals.
“Tonight was about getting back to who we are, the importance of this game and what was on the line,” Tumwater assistant coach Gabi Larson said. “I thought our girls responded the right way in the third quarter. We want to see how far we can go.”
