Timberline sophomore Micah Tilley shined at the 3A state tournament in Spokane this week, tying for third place with an overall score of 138, shooting 69 (-2) on both days.
He was at his best at the end of day two as he registered three consecutive birdies. Tilley’s third-place finish is the best in the program since Cameron Peck tied for third in 2009, and no Blazer has ever finished higher. Tilley was the only underclassmen to place in the top five at state.
North Thurston junior Jaxon Bouchey finished in 27th with an overall score of 148, improving from his day-one score of 75 by shooting a 73 on day two. His 27th-place finish is the highest for North Thurston in at least the last 25 years.
Capital junior Carter Armstrong, who shot a 68 to rank in the top five on Tuesday, finished with an overall score of 150 after shooting an 82 on day two to rank tied for 35th.
The Capital girls finished ninth as a team and were led by senior Anna Duerr’s fifth-place finish. She carded a total score of 145 with a 74 on day one and a 71 on day two. She notched a birdie on three of her first four holes Wednesday to vault her up the standings. Duerr’s fourth and final trip to state was her best, as she took seventh as a junior, 15th as a sophomore and 21st as a freshman.
North Thurston freshman Nora Huff took 22nd with a total score of 158, shooting a 75 on day one and an 83 on day two. Capital senior Brianna Morrison (T-51st at 176), sophomore Kylie Read (T-59th at 179), senior Elsa Schreck (68th at 187), and junior Bronwyn Green (71st at 195) all qualified for day two. Timberline junior Kaelie Heminger took 63rd, carding a 90 on both days of the tournament.
In the 4A boys tournament, Olympia senior finished tied for 32nd with a two-day score of 159. He posted a 74 on day one before following it with an 85 on day two.
