The Timberline boys soccer team earned its third straight victory by shutting out River Ridge at home 3-0 Tuesday night.
Arilson Lima Filho opened the scoring in the eighth minute, taking a dime from Rob Hurley and racing past the defender for a goal. Early in the second half, Mike Navarrete’s free kick slipped past the hands of River Ridge keeper Braxton Martinez for the second goal of the night.
In the 56th minute, Timberline stole a goal kick, and Liam Derickson scored off a pass from Sergio Aguilar Flores.
Despite the eighth straight loss, and the seventh via a clean sheet, River Ridge head coach Daniel Arevalo was proud of how his team battled in the first half after the early Blazers goal.
“I loved how we played after they scored the first goal. I felt like for 31 minutes in the first half, we really stepped up our game and created some good chances,” he said. “In the second half, we struggled after the two mistakes that led to goals.”
Arevalo highlighted the play of freshmen Ian Allsup, Alberth Perete-Delgadillo, Steven Membreno-Torres and Charlie O’Friel, as well as the positivity of captains Daniel Smith, Mason Hanner and Noah Potegal.
Timberline (5-4-2, 3-1-1 Puget Sound League) now sits in a tie for second place in the Puget Sound League Nisqually Division with North Thurston entering a road matchup at Peninsula (3-6-0, 2-3-0 Puget Sound League) Thursday night. River Ridge (0-10-1, 0-5-0 Puget Sound League) will visit Lakes (2-7-0, 1-4-0 Puget Sound League) Friday night.
