The Timberline volleyball team made quick work of Bellarmine in a season-opening sweep Tuesday night.
Timberline pounded the Lions 25-12 in the first set of the year, continued to roll in the second set with a 25-14 triumph, and demolished Bellarmine 25-7 in set three.
Kinsley Smith, the reigning Puget Sound League Nisqually Defensive Player of the Year, upped the ante on offense with 10 kills and two aces while adding four digs on defense. Miya Jackson totaled six kills, three aces and eight digs. Leia Dela Cruz impressed with 18 assists, seven aces and nine digs.
“Tonight’s match against Bellarmine was a great first match for us. As expected, we started a little nervous with some younger players stepping into bigger roles,” Timberline head coach Matt Monnastes said. “By the middle of the match, we settled in and started showing glimpses of what we know this group can do.”
Monnastes said Timberline’s goal was to neutralize Bellarmine’s best player Grace Morgan by serving strategically and keeping the Lions out of system and the ball away from her.
“I thought as the match went on, we did a much better job executing that plan,” he said.
Timberline (1-0) will visit Silas Thursday night.
