The Timberline baseball team couldn’t rally back after surrendering a six-run third inning against Curtis in a 9-4 loss Monday.
After Curtis stranded two runners in the first inning, Timberline scored first on a two-out RBI single by Derek Sanchez in the second inning. The Vikings responded with two runs in the bottom of the second before erupting for six in the third to take an 8-1 lead. Each of the first Vikings who stepped up to the plate in the third recorded a hit.
Curtis added a run in the fourth, and the Blazers, who started 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position, converted on a fly ball by Sanchez that forced an error to score a run in the sixth.
More defensive mistakes from Curtis led to two runs by Timberline in the seventh, but the run was cut short. Timberline finished 2 of 12 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners stranded on base.
Marley Gamble batted 3 of 4 and stole a base, while Will Tennent and Blake Rickert each went 2 of 4.
The loss to Curtis is the first of three games in Pierce County in three days for Timberline (7-9, 7-6 Puget Sound League). Next up is a trip to Silas (11-4, 10-3 PSL) Tuesday, followed by a visit to Bellarmine (8-7, 8-5 PSL) Wednesday.
