Tigers take control early in win over Mountaineers

Napavine picked up its third consecutive victory on Monday, building an early lead and rolling to a 13-5 victory over Rainier.

The Tigers scored six runs in the first two innings of the game, and they added six more in the fourth to push their lead to 12-3. Rainier added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-5, but the Mountaineers didn’t score across the final three innings.

Hannah Fay pitched the first three and a third for Napavine, allowing just three hits and five runs (one earned) while striking out two, and Dakota Lyons allowed just one hit and struck out three in three and two-thirds innings of relief.

Fay went 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs at the plate, Clara Fay added four hits and two RBIs in four at-bats, and Taylen Evander, Hayden Kaut, and Paytin Wheeler drove in two runs apiece.

Gracie Lantz picked up two RBIs of her own for Rainier, while Sierra Lee added two hits and Layla Hill picked up an RBI of her own.

Both teams will return to play on Thursday. Rainier (1-1) will head to Lacey to face North Thurston, while Napavine will return home to host Toledo in a non-league matchup.
