A 33-year-old Yelm man was hospitalized after his motorcycle struck a vehicle on state Route 7 in Pierce County on Monday afternoon.
Jevonn J. Wheeler was traveling south on state Route 7 near mile marker 38 on a 2020 Harley-Davidson FXLRS when he attempted to pass a vehicle on the right. That’s when his motorcycle struck a northbound 2015 Nissan Altima that was attempting to turn left on 320th Street East, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash occurred at about 1:20 p.m.
Wheeler, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Nissan, Blair A. Mims, 18, of Eatonville, was not injured, and neither was his passenger, Ikaika M. Rose, 18, of Eatonville.
Both the motorcycle and the car were totaled. The roadway was closed for about 20 minutes.
The cause remains under investigation, according to the state patrol, which indicated drugs and alcohol were not involved.
