The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office declared two of its K9s “hide and seek champions” Thursday night after they successfully tracked at least six subjects between two separate incidents.
In the first incident, K9 Igo and K9 Mac were dispatched following an altercation with six people who allegedly tagged a fence and pulled handguns on responding deputies in South Thurston County before fleeing on foot.
K9 Igo located two of the suspects’ handguns under a trailer and found two suspects hiding in the woods, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.
Meanwhile, three subjects tried to flee on foot, but ran into another deputy on the perimeter. One surrendered and two kept running with a drone overhead, according to the sheriff’s office.
K9 Mac tracked those two suspects and located one trying to crawl away.
A short time later, Mason County requested Thurston County Sheriff’s Office assistance with a pursuit entering Thurston County. The pursuit went through Thurston and ended up crashing in Grays Harbor County, but Mason County requested the assistance of K9 Mac to locate suspects who fled the vehicle on foot.
K9 Mac tracked from the car and found two suspects hiding in the woods.
While searching for the third suspect, the suspect reportedly “called 911 and wanted to turn himself in because he was scared he was going to get bit by K9 Mac,” according to the sheriff’s office.
K9 Mac, partnered with Deputy Pearsall, joined the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office in August 2024. K9 Igo, partnered with Deputy Bagby, joined in 2022.
