A Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy recovered a stolen vehicle and a stolen motorcycle Sunday during separate traffic stops.

“Great work by one of our south county deputies to get multiple stolen vehicles back to their rightful owners,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post, noting that this is the second time that this deputy has recovered multiple stolen vehicles in the same shift.

The motorcycle was recovered during a traffic stop in the Rochester area at approximately 4:21 p.m. on Dec. 28, according to Sanders.

The deputy ran the plate of a motorcycle, which came back with a stolen hit out of Thurston County. The rider, who had an active warrant out for their arrest, was taken into custody without incident.

During a search incident to arrest, a substance suspected to be meth was located on the suspect. The suspect in this case was booked into jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The deputy recovered a stolen Ford flatbed pickup truck on Old Highway 99 at approximately 9:46 p.m. on Dec. 28, according to Sanders.

The deputy stopped the Ford for driving without license plates.

While walking up to the vehicle, the deputy noticed the license plate was on the truck but bent up so it could not be viewed.

After running the plate, dispatch advised the truck was stolen out of Thurston County, according to Sanders.

The driver, a convicted felon for attempting to elude and possession of stolen property, was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle.

During a search incident to arrest, the suspect was also found to be in possession of substances believed to be heroin and meth.

The truck, which was stolen from a business one week prior, was returned to the owner. The investigation is ongoing, Sanders said.
