The Thurston County Auditor’s Elections Division updated more than 78,000 voter registration records for the county’s over 200,000 registered voters in 2025, the auditor’s office announced Monday.
“Our voter registration team maintains the voter rolls throughout the year,” said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall “We receive new and updated information from state and federal partners, as well as from voters themselves, to ensure our voter records remain accurate.”
Examples of these updates include:
To maintain accurate voter registration data, the auditor’s office works closely with trusted sources, including:
The auditor’s office also removes registrations of deceased individuals using health department data, published obituaries, and written notices from relatives.
Washington State is a member of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), which uses data-matching software to compare voter registration and motor vehicle licensing records across 30 other states to ensure voters are not registered in multiple states.
In 2025, the Auditor’s Office updated 2,148 voter records using ERIC data.
“We really appreciate the help voters provide by proactively updating their records or notifying us when someone in their household has passed away,” Hall said. “If voters receive a ballot for a deceased person, someone who has moved, or anyone who does not live at their address, they should contact the auditor’s office.”
Voters may also return the ballot through the U.S. Postal Service by writing “Deceased” or “Not at this address” on the envelope and placing it in the mail.
