On an individual level, Adna’s Trevin Salme had an incredible year.

The junior averaged more than 23 points per game, earning Central 2B League Co-Most Valuable Player honors while also setting a pair of Adna scoring records.

Salme acknowledged the significance of his season, but also said that to him, there’s something bigger on the line.

“I’d rather our team do well,” Salme said.

In that regard, the 2025-26 season was even more spectacular for Salme and the Pirates.

Salme led Adna all the way to the state championship game as the No. 9 seed, as the Pirates pulled off three upsets in three days in Spokane to reach the state’s main stage.

Adna ultimately fell to top-seeded Colfax, which finished the season unbeaten, but the second-place finish stands as the best in school history.

The Pirates also reached the 25-win mark for just the second time, matching the 1994-95 team, which finished third in state.

In the immediate aftermath of the title game, there was understandably some disappointment, but even more so, there was a sense of pride for what they had accomplished.

That feeling remains with Salme weeks later.

“Just how special it was and how lucky we were to get to that moment and play for a state title,” Salme said.

In Spokane, Salme averaged 23.5 points per game, which was right around his season average of 23.2, and he also broke Scott Novak’s single-season and career scoring records, which had stood in Adna since 1982.

Salme scored 697 points this season, and he’ll enter his senior season with 2,000 career points in sight. He currently sits at 1,516 career points. In addition to his scoring output, Salme also averaged 8.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

“It’s special,” Salme said before commending his teammates. “We are all great friends, we hang out together, and we have great connections with every single person on our team.”

Nearly everyone on this year’s team will be back next winter, including Salme. Many other members of the core, including Grayson Humphrey, Beau Miller, and Landen Cline, are juniors, and they’ll look to cap their high school basketball careers with another state run.

“I’m very excited,” Salme said. “Just to learn, grow, get better, and hopefully make a run next year.”

In the meantime, Salme’s attention will turn towards defending an individual title. Last spring, he won the 1B/2B State Golf Tournament, and he’ll be looking to have similar success in Liberty Lake come May.

“My goal right now is just to make it to state,” Salme said with a smile. “Hopefully get there and see what happens.”
