The Tenino volleyball team raced out to a two-set lead over Hoquiam on the road on Tuesday night, but things slipped away in a 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 12-15 reverse sweep to the Grizzlies.

“The first two games we played together and used all of our offensive players. We played loose and free,” Tenino coach Shauna Carpenter said. “We got nervous in the third and couldn’t shake it. We started to play small. It was super frustrating letting it slip out of our hands.”

Katen Burkhardt finished with 24 kills and 20 digs while going 26 for 28 from the service line, while Peyton Songer added 20 digs while going 18 for 20 at the line.

Sequoia Zimmer dished out 26 assists while adding 17 digs and missing just one of 16 service attempts, and Abby Smith added eight assists, four digs, two kills, and two blocks.

Violet Zimmer tallied 11 kills, five digs, and three aces on a 10 for 14 night at the line, Kendall Bowe added five kills and three digs, and Brooklyn Livermore finished with five blocks and missed just two of nine serve attempts.

Both Kaytlin Holmes-Pickernel and Keira Laughlin finished with six digs, and Laughlin added a perfect 15 for 15 mark at the line.

Tenino (3-5, 1-1 1A Evergreen) will look to rebound on Thursday in Elma.
