Tenino and Hoquiam split their six matches in Tenino on Monday, but the Beavers picked up a win via tiebreakers by winning seven sets as opposed to Hoquiam’s six to result in a 3-3 (7-6) victory.
Chloe Suess, Kyla Watson, and Eva Wegleben swept the three singles matches for Tenino, while Hoquiam won all three doubles matchups.
Gracie Sweet and Izzy Schnase were able to take the first set of the top doubles match, though, which ended up being the set that gave the Beavers the tiebreaker.
Sweet and Schnase fell 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 5-7, but Tenino coach Sam Shea was proud of the way they continued to battle throughout, even when down 2-5 in the third set.
“It was a really tough match, and they were playing really well and keeping spirits high,” Shea said. “They kept at it and battled. We were impressed and proud of them with how much they’ve grown.”
The Beavers are scheduled to host Fort Vancouver on Tuesday and La Center on Thursday, but because La Center only has one player, it will just be Suess playing on Thursday.
