In the first edition of the Scatter Creek Showdown on the hardwood, it was the Beavers that took control from the second quarter and secured a 59-32 victory over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at home.
Tenino (4-12, 1-3 Evergreen) snapped a five-game losing streak and moved into fourth place in the standings. Down by one after the first eight minutes, it reeled off a 16-point second quarter to take the lead for good and 32 points in the second half.
“The girls came out and really executed offensively,” Beavers head coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “They did such a great job controlling the ball and controlling the pace.”
Kylie Gonia drilled four 3-pointers and was 8-of-8 from the free throw line for a game-high 24 points for Tenino. Charley Jones, Georgia Gore and Chloe Grayless all registered nine points. That quartet all pulled down at least five rebounds.
Rochester (4-12, 0-3) was paced by Chloe Verd and Liz Hoover each scoring eight points while Lauren Rodriguez added six. The Warriors return home on Tuesday to face Hoquiam while the Beavers take on The Bush School in a non-league tilt on Tuesday.
