Ignited by four goals in the span of 11 minutes in the first half, the Beavers capped their non-league slate with a dominant 5-0 win over the Highclimbers on Tuesday night at home.
At 6-1-1 on the season, Tenino heads into Evergreen League play brimming with confidence. It will take on Rochester in the first of two Scatter Creek Showdowns.
“We know we played a gauntlet of a non-league, but coming out of it is a testament to where we are,” Beavers head coach Trevor Fetbrandt said. “We’ll be dialed, ready to go for Rochester and take care of business one week at a time.”
Maria Summers, who came on as a substitute, started the scoring in the 20th minute off a feed from Callie Mickelson. Summers assisted Kylie Gonia’s goal in the 24th minute, then Mickelson tallied goals in the 29th and 31st minutes.
Georgia Gore and Kyla Watson registered the final two assists in the first half onslaught.
“We were suspecting (Shelton) was gonna play hard; once we got that first and second goal, we knew we could pour it on,” Fetbrandt said. “It played out how we thought it would.”
Tenino deployed a larger varsity roster and Fetbrandt said every player was on the field for at least 30 minutes. Elizabeth Duarte scored in the 74th minute on a dime by Charlie Wheeler to complete the victory.
“They got that spotlight so good for them,” Fetbrandt said of his last two point scorers.
