Tenino lost two games to Forks on Friday, dropping Game 1 6-5 before losing Game 2 16-6 in five.

The Beavers battled in Game 1, tying the game at two after falling behind 2-0, and they scored three in the sixth to get within one after Forks took a 6-2 lead with a four-run fifth.

Tenino had a chance to tie or take the lead in the sixth, as two runners were in scoring position, but a strikeout ended the rally.

Katen Burkhardt pitched all seven innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, but only two were earned, and she also struck out eight without issuing a walk.

“Katen threw an amazing game,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “We just couldn't make it work to get the tie.”

Callie Mickelson played in center field, and she went a perfect 3 for 3 with a run at the plate.

“She was on base a ton and she played a great game,” Johnson said. “I was really happy for her.”

Tenino got on the board first in Game 2 with a run in the first, and the Beavers responded to a Forks four-spot with a four-spot of their own in the second to retake the lead.

They added a run in the third to go up 6-4, but the Spartans rallied to score six in both the fourth and fifth to blow the game open.

“They hit the ball well, and we didn’t play the best defense behind Kylie (Gonia),” Johnson said. “She pitched well, it was just the luck of the draw.”

Tamara Snodderly finished with two hits, including a double, and she drove in a run, while Jaeleen Woodward reached base three times and scored twice.

Tenino (4-10, 1-5 1A Evergreen) will head to Onalaska on Tuesday before hosting Rochester on Thursday.
