T-Birds secure first winning streak, cruise past Tigers

It took until the opening day in October, but the Tumwater High School volleyball team has won two matches in a row after beating Centralia 25-20, 25-7, 25-11 in an Evergreen Conference contest at home on Thursday night.

Now at 2-6 and 2-0 in the league, the Thunderbirds have also recorded back-to-back sweeps after only winning three sets through their non-league schedule. They’ll look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday against Black Hills.

For Centralia (3-6, 0-2) it kept the opening set competitive, but proceeded to win only 18 points over the final two sets. Megan Wickert recorded 11 digs, Kendyl Guenther notched five kills and was perfect from the service line along with Ava Horst.

The Tigers will look to get their first league win on Tuesday when they welcome W.F. West to Ron Brown court.
