After a scoreless opening 45 minutes at the Regional Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon, both South Puget Sound Community College and Clark College women’s soccer teams came alive on offense in a 2-2 draw.
SPSCC outshot Clark 5-3 in the first half, but the Penguins struck first on the scoreboard with a 50th-minute goal by Elsa Bice. The Clippers answered nine minutes later, as sophomore midfielder Tyralyn Peralta found the back of the net for the third time this season. Sophomore defender Jess Loto connected Peralta with the assist.
In the 70th minute, the Clippers took the lead off a goal by Niki Covert, her second of the season, from an assist by Samantha Thomas. Seconds later, SPSCC goalkeeper Dariana Calix Villegas, who was recently named the NWAC Defensive Player of the Week, saved a potential game-tying shot by the Penguins.
But Clark eventually found its equalizer, as Bella Rodriguez nailed a penalty kick in the 78th minute. The Clippers only attempted one more shot over the final 12 minutes while the Penguins recorded four, two of which were saved by Calix Villegas, who finished with five saves.
Clark outshot SPSCC 13-9, including 10-4 in the second half.
SPSCC (2-0-2, 0-0-2 NWAC) will return home Saturday, Sept. 5 to face Tacoma Community College at noon.
