The Saint Martin’s softball team has now won six consecutive games in Bartow, Florida, at The Spring Games. The Saints rocked Edinboro University of Pennsylvania 9-1 in five innings Friday morning before shutting out Clarion 11-0 in another five-inning contest.
As has been the case for Saint Martin’s during its hot streak, the Saints roared out to an impressive start in the first inning. The first three batters reached base, with Haley Agena scoring on a wild pitch to put Saint Martin’s on the board first. Jennessy Lopez drove in two runs with a double to right, and Faith Prosch’s second RBI of the season put the Saints up 4-0 after a single to score Lopez.
Trailing 4-1 after one, Edinboro rewarded its leadoff walk in the bottom of the first with an unearned run off an infield error by the Saints, but the Fighting Scots left the bases loaded against Saints starter Keagan Norfleet.
Saint Martin’s added two in the fourth, with Heather Ebner driving in a run on a single and Holland Jensen bringing a runner home with a fielder’s choice. The Saints put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth as Ebner doubled in a pair and Kendalyn Cordeiro-Felise brought her home to make it 9-1.
Norfleet was efficient against Edinboro, throwing all five innings and only allowing the one unearned run, four hits and two walks.
In the afternoon game against Clarion, Saint Martin’s opened the game with its best inning of the young season. The Saints scored a whopping nine runs in the first with five hits, three walks and an error. The run was so impressive that the Saints’ top four batters appeared at the plate twice in the frame. Highlights included a two-run double by Layla Royle, an infield error by Clarion that scored two more, and a two-run single by Ebner.

Saint Martin’s (13-11) will finish The Spring Games Saturday against Hillsdale College and then against Lake Erie College before returning home next weekend.
