Saint Martin’s pulls off 14-point second-half comeback to stun Simon Fraser

The Saint Martin’s men’s basketball team roared back from a second-half 14-point deficit to defeat Simon Fraser 81-73 in Canada.

Both teams went back and forth for the first 13 minutes of action before Simon Fraser closed out the first half on a 12-4 run to take a 10-point halftime lead. The Saints faced their largest deficit of the night less than five minutes into the second half, with the Red Leafs ahead 51-37. 

Saint Martin’s responded with 10 unanswered points, capped off by a pair of Kaden Hansen 3-pointers, to pull within four in just a two-and-a-half-minute span. 

The Saints took their first lead of the second half on a Pablo Navarro layup with 7:42 left in the fourth. Following a 73-73 tie with 2:09 remaining, Saint Martin’s finished the game on an 8-0 run, emphasized by a Diego Trejo-Delgado dunk with under a minute left.

Hansen tallied 32 points on 11 of 24 shooting and 6 of 13 from 3-point range. Trejo-Delgado recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Navarro added 12 points and five rebounds.

Saint Martin’s (19-4, 11-2 GNAC) will visit Western Washington in Bellingham Saturday night before returning home next week.
