The Rochester and Tenino boys golf teams faced off at Riverside on Wednesday, and the Warriors came away with a narrow 206-209 victory over the Beavers.
The match was tied after the first group (of two players from each school) came to the clubhouse, and it was separated by just one stroke after the following group.
The last pair made the difference, as Rochester’s Ryder Radasa carded the Warriors’ second-best score of the day despite being their last varsity player in the field.
“It's a great lesson for the team that which position you're playing in doesn't really matter,” Rochester coach Brian Keese said. “If you're playing good golf, you're going to contribute at some point. Ryder did that today and saved the match for us.”
Rochester’s Wesley Dahl and Tenino’s Riley Lynch finished as co-match medalists, as they both carded 45s.
Behind Dahl for Rochester was Radasa’s 52, Jacob Baird with a 53, and Clayton Knutson with a 56.
Behind Lynch for Tenino was Brayden Bennett, who carded a 53, Gabe Hart, who logged a 55, and Gavin Derrick, who finished at 56.
Both schools will head to Alderbrook on Monday for the annual Sibley Scramble.
