Fueled by medalist Boden Grimm’s nine-hole round of 42, the Warriors picked up a Scatter Creek Showdown victory on the links with a 193-204 win over Tenino on Wednesday afternoon at Tahoma Valley.
Darin Ware also was under 50 with a 48 while returning Class 1A state qualifier Clayton Knutson carded a 51. Lucas Barberg, in his varsity debut, rounded out Rochester’s low-four with a 52.
For Tenino, its low round came off the clubs of Koby Connell and Gavin Derrick, each with a 49. Gabe Hart recorded a 52 and Landon Carpenter posted a 54.
“I’m really proud of how we bounced back and were able to secure a close win in the rain,” Rochester head coach Brian Keese said.
The Warriors opened their season on Monday with another Evergreen League match against Hoquiam, dropping a 171-211 decision. Ware was their top golfer with a 48 and Grim, Knutson plus Wesley Dahl all were above 50.
Hoquiam’s Aden Hartt was the medalist with a 38 at Riverside Golf Course.
