Halfway through an eight-game stretch against Pierce County schools, the River Ridge volleyball team has lost its last three games, including a sweep at Central Kitsap Monday night.
The Cougars routed the Hawks 25-12 in set one, and River Ridge inched closer in set two 25-18 before falling in the final frame 25-14.
Senior setter Kristina Stupina shined from the service line again with an 11-for-11 night to go with 12 assists, five digs and two aces. Ny’zriae Collins-Howard and Sa’riyah Nance each recorded five kills and three block assists, while Sofia Lie led the defense with eight digs. Sophia Quinn also was on fire from the service line, finishing without a miss on 10 attempts.
Sophomore setter Sophia Garrison also saw time and earned 13 set attempts, with head coach Arianna Jacobson praising her ability to handle pressure and high stakes. However, Jacobson is looking for more from her front row as the competition gets tougher.
“We are looking for our hitters and blockers to step up and terminate the ball under transition, as well as make adjustments on blocking,” Jacobson said.
River Ridge (2-4, 1-3 Puget Sound League) will continue its tour through the Pierce County schools Wednesday night at Gig Harbor.
