The River Ridge football team couldn’t catch up to a 21-point halftime deficit and loss to Kelso 27-7 on the road Friday night.

Kelso led 14-0 after one and added to its lead with another touchdown in the second quarter. Trailing 27-0 after three, River Ridge finally found the end zone with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by running back Xavier Street, who finished with 65 of the Hawks’ 126 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Ryzen Nunez completed five of 13 passes for 75 yards and threw two interceptions, while Jax Fulton completed just three of 13 passes for 39 yards. In his first game as a River Ridge Hawk, Ayden Rookwood recorded 63 receiving yards on four catches.

River Ridge (0-1) will host Auburn Riverside Thursday, Sept. 10 at South Sound Stadium.
