The River Ridge softball team kept the dangerous Peninsula Seahawks off the scoreboard for four innings, but the dam eventually broke as Peninsula prevailed 7-1 in Gig Harbor Monday.
Starting pitcher Jaylah Sok-Vandergriff stranded two runners in the first inning, left a leadoff single on base in both the second and fourth innings, and worked a 1-2-3 third.
She led off the top of the fourth with a double off Abby Hoyt, and Raylie Birklid followed her with an RBI double to give River Ridge a 1-0 lead.
A pair of errors by River Ridge had Peninsula in business in the fifth, and Hoyt tied the game with an RBI double. Vivien Sweet launched an RBI double to left field to put the Seahawks up 2-1, and Izzy Michaels followed by scoring two on a triple to center. Peninsula finished off a five-run fifth with a sacrifice fly by Meghan Webster.
River Ridge left two runners on base in the sixth and one in the seventh, while the Seahawks tallied two more runs in the sixth to finish off the Hawks.
Birklid and Sok-Vandergriff both finished 2 of 3 at the plate, accounting for all of River Ridge’s hits. Sok-Vandergriff also struck out five in the circle across six innings, surrendering seven runs, but only one was earned.
River Ridge (7-9, 7-7 Puget Sound League) sits in fourth place in the PSL Nisqually Division. The Hawks have two more league games remaining, starting at Lakes (0-13, 0-13 PSL) Tuesday and at home against North Thurston (9-7, 6-6 PSL) Wednesday.
