River Ridge can’t crawl back against Peninsula

The River Ridge boys soccer team kept it close against Peninsula with a strong first half but fell apart in the second half, losing 5-1 Tuesday night.

Peninsula scored seven minutes into the contest but never found the back of the net again in the first half. River Ridge had a handful of chances for goals but couldn’t score. After the Seahawks notched a goal less than two minutes into the second half, Aamir McGeachy won a one-on-one situation and netted a goal in the 52nd minute for the Hawks.

But down 2-1, the Hawks allowed three goals in a seven-minute span.

“I thought the boys played a really good first half. In the second half, the boys never quit. We created a few chances even in the dying minutes of the game,” River Ridge head coach Daniel Arevalo said. “I love how we are creating chances the last two games, but we just need to convert them into actual goals.”

River Ridge (0-12-1, 0-7-0 Puget Sound League) has three more games on the regular season schedule against the top three teams in the Nisqually Division, starting with the frontrunner Thursday night in Capital (11-1-2, 6-0-1 PSL). The Hawks held the high-scoring Cougars to two goals on April 7.
