There were plenty of heavy hitters from SW Washington at Friday’s Kalama Twilight Invitational and several of them put on a show.
Onalaska’s Luke Barrick reset his own state record again by winning the pole vault with a clearance of 16 feet, 6 inches for a new PR. He also grabbed fourth place in the long jump, helping the Loggers finish third in the team race with 78.5 points.
Toledo was fourth with 72 while Tenino rounded out the top-five with 54 and Mossyrock piled 41 points to finish in a tie for seventh.
Morgan Allen finished top-five in both hurdle races and the shot put while Austin Sturza picked up top-five placements in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.
Toledo was paced by two wins from distance star Conner Hill in the 1,600 and 3,200 plus a third place finish in the 800. Senior Adam Kruger leaped two PR’s in his events, recording a best mark of 42-02 to claim the triple jump and a leap of 20-04 to finish second in the long jump.
Kruger now has the second best triple jump mark in Class 2B. Trevin Gale won the open 400 and took third in the open 100 while Brody Lawrence placed second in the javelin.
Tenino’s Weston Wachter-Parent unleashed a new career-best throw of 147-09 to secure the javelin victory. Also in the throws for the Beavers, Jeremiah McKague (shot put) and Parker Minerich (discus) each took second.
Mossyrock’s all three relays registered top-three finishes, paced by its 1,600-meter relay. Carson Dewallie nabbed top-five placements in the high jump and 400. For Winlock, Jacob Trodahl was its best runner, fourth in the 800.
On the girls side, Toledo was the best area team by placing fifth with 59.5 points. Onica Chase recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400 and 800 while Sidney Kruger was second in the 300 hurdles.
Lilly Cooper had a standout day in the field, placing top-eight in the triple jump, long jump and high jump. Her mark of 31-10.25 in the triple jump was a new personal best. Braelyn Nyberg placed top-five in the 1,600 and 3,200 for the Riverhawks.
Winlock’s Victoria Sancho won the triple jump and took third in the 100 and 200. A pair of PR’s from Onalaska’s Faith Hammer (javelin) and Mossyrock’s Audrey Ollikainen (discus) led to wins. Tenino’s best finisher was Kendall Bowe, third in the javelin.
Adna’s 800 relay records lone victory down south
The Pirates quartet of Tyler Kennedy, Kannen Kephart, Treven Willis and Markus Miles blitzed around the track at Columbia River High School to win the 800 relay in 1 minute, 35.39 seconds on Friday.
As the lone area school at the John Ingram Twilight, Adna’s boys squad had a handful of top-five finishes. Miles and Kephart joined Grayson Humphrey and Carter Duncan to place fifth in the 400 relay. Steven O’Dell also took fifth in the 800 with a PR of 2:01.89.
Kade Pearson was fifth in the javelin while Noah Hellem grabbed sixth place in the shot put.
For the Adna girls, Kamryn Freeman was its highest individual finisher, fourth in the shot put with a PR toss of 33-07.50. All three of the Pirates relays placed top-six, led by their 800 relay in fourth.
