Rainier’s three-game win streak to open the season came to an end on Monday, when the Mountaineers lost to Montesano 57-30.
Rainier was within striking distance at halftime, trailing by just nine, but it was outscored in the second half 31-14.
“We were able to hang around for a while, but Montesano's size and experience wore us down,” Rainier coach Ben Sheaffer said. “Our group continued to battle, but had difficulty getting shots to fall tonight. Overall, we are proud of our effort and we recognize that this type of game will help us down the road.”
Peyton Sheaffer led the way offensively for the Mountaineers with 14 points, while Jordan Pringle scored five and Ty Beckman added three. Jacob Hanson, Nehemiah Linson, Matheus McKitrick, and James Morrison added a pair each.
Rainier (3-1) will look to get back in the win column on Thursday at Toutle Lake.
