Rainier snaps four-game skid, takes two from Onalaska

Fueled by all but two hitters getting on base at least once over the course of two games, the Mountaineers picked up their first C2BL wins in nearly three weeks, sweeping the Loggers 15-4 and 11-7 on Friday night.

It ends a four-game losing streak and brings both their C2BL and overall record to 4-4. Rainier scored over the final five innings of Game 1, beginning with RBIs from Jackson Stockdale and Kaden Goodman in the second. All three of its runs in the fourth came with two outs.

Jeremy Newton drove in four runs for the Mountaineers while Goodman, Wyatt Cughan and Kaymen Larman all recorded two hits. They swiped eight bases, paced by Cughan’s three, and Peyton Sheaffer struck out seven in five innings on the mound.

Onalaska had four extra base hits by four different hitters. Dakota Kramer launched a solo home run while Rowdy Lyons and Broden Vickers also had RBIs.

In the nightcap, it was the first time the Loggers (0-11, 0-8) played into the seventh and set a new season-best in runs with seven. They scored multiple runs in the top of the second, fifth and seventh innings. McKinley had two hits, Lyons drove in a pair and Kramer roped a double.

Yet Rainier was still on the right side of the scoreboard behind three runs in the first and it never trailed the rest of the way. Yazama Gurnsey, who struck out 11 on the bump, also hit a double and a triple. Sheaffer roped two doubles and Cughan put up two hits as well.

Onalaska and Rainier will be off for spring break and return to the field on April 15 versus Winlock and Toledo, respectively.
