The Olympia boys soccer team is still alive in the District 3/4 4A Tournament. The Bears knocked out red-hot Kennedy Catholic with a 1-0 shutout Tuesday at Sunset Stadium in Sumner in an elimination game.

Olympia followed up its 1-0 loss to Sumner in the quarterfinals Saturday by flipping the script and winning by the same verdict.

Sophomore Pyke Celedonia posted the lone goal for Olympia off of an assist from senior Noel Fernandez. Olympia outshot Kennedy Catholic 8-4, with Bears keeper Declan Borden recording two saves.

Kennedy Catholic entered the game winning seven of its previous eight games, including a 2-1 win over the district’s top seed Stadium.

“Always good to win a loser-out match. Their outside wingers were very dangerous from watching film,” Olympia head coach Ty Johnson said of Kennedy Catholic. “Stefan Lucenko and Zach Bowman had both of them on lockdown.”

Olympia (12-3-4) advances to a winner-to-state, loser-out game against South Puget Sound League foe Curtis (10-4-1) Thursday at Art Crate Field in Spanaway. The Bears lost to Curtis 1-0 on April 6 in a game that saw Olympia play without several of its key players.

“Looking forward to a second chance with state on the line,” Johnson said.
