The Olympia Police Department responded to a total of 2,253 calls for service over the last two weeks.
The department remarked upon the following notable trends:
- Three aggravated assaults were reported over the last two weeks. Charges were referred to the prosecutor in one case where a patient spit in the face of a nurse. Another suspect was arrested after strangling the victim during an argument. Officers arrested the suspect in the last case after he pepper sprayed two victims and hit one in the back with a baseball bat.
- Six auto thefts were reported. Two were unreturned rentals, one a 2024 Mazda CX5 and the other a U-Haul truck. Charges were referred on a suspect for stealing a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 during a residential burglary and then returning with it for a second burglary of the house. Other cars stolen included a 2013 Subaru Forester, 2018 Toyota Yaris and a 2007 Toyota Prius.
- Officers arrested suspects in both commercial burglaries reported over the last two weeks. A witness reported seeing a suspect jump a fence into a secured property. Officers located him nearby. In the other arrest, the suspect returned to a store previously trespassed from and stole again.
- Seven residential burglaries were reported, with one still an open investigation. One house was burglarized twice by the same suspect who was arrested during the second burglary. Two cases were from garages. One was accidentally left open and the other was unsecured. In one arrest, the suspect pushed past the victim who was trying to stop him from entering her home. In the other, the suspect climbed onto a neighbor’s balcony and pushed in the AC unit of the victim’s window to gain entry during a domestic violence incident.
- Seventeen thefts were reported over the two-week period. Nine bikes were stolen including three from a bike room, two were secured to bike racks, and three e-bikes. One bike was left briefly unattended while the victim went into a convenience store and was stolen within a few minutes. An officer located it the next day during an area patrol and made an arrest for possession of stolen property.
- Sixteen vehicle prowls were reported, with arrests in two cases. One suspect was found sleeping in the victim’s car. In the other arrest, a witness reported someone trying to enter multiple vehicles. He was located nearby and assaulted an officer during the arrest.
