The Olympia Police Department responded to a total 1,059 calls for service this week.
The department remarked upon the following notable trends:
- One arson reported this week. The suspect lit a piece of clothing on fire and put it in the victim’s gas tank. It fell out and extinguished.
- Officers arrested suspects in all three aggravated assaults reported. In one, the suspect sprayed the victim, who has asthma, in the face with air freshener and then threatened them with a knife. In another arrest, the suspect pepper sprayed his parents. In the last arrest, the suspect tried to suffocate the victim by covering their mouth and nose and prevented them from calling 911.
- Three commercial burglaries reported with one arrest and one an open investigation. In the arrest, the suspect returned to a store previously trespassed from and shoplifted again. The property was recovered. In the other case, the suspect pried open an unsecured rolling door and stole multiple tools and generators.
- Officers arrested the suspect in the robbery reported. The suspect swung a machete at an employee trying to stop him from stealing seven pairs of jeans from the business. Officers followed the path the victim saw the suspect flee and eventually located the suspect. Some of the property and the weapon were recovered.
- Three residential burglaries this week. In one case, the suspect entered through a window. A flashlight was recovered and sent to the lab for fingerprinting. In another case, the suspect entered through an unsecured sliding backdoor. In the last case, two men broke the door to a storage unit and stole six boxes of property.
