The Olympia Police Department responded to a total 1,110 calls for service this week.
The department remarked upon the following notable trends:
- Officers arrested the suspect in the arson reported this week. They responded to a vehicle on fire that Olympia Fire Department informed them was intentionally set. During the investigation, two witnesses and security footage confirmed the suspect’s identity. He returned to the property the next day and officers arrested him after he tried to flee.
- Three aggravated assaults reported this week with arrests in two cases and charges referred to the prosecutor in the third. In one arrest, the suspect swung a machete type weapon towards the victim. In the other arrest, the suspect strangled and bit the victim. The last case was a violation of a no contact order and the suspect also strangled and punched the victim.
- Three auto theft cases reported with a total of five vehicles stolen. In one case, a 2015 Dodge Charger was on a U-Haul trailer attached to a 2004 Chevy Silverado. All three were stolen. The other cases were a 2002 Ford F350 and 2003 Chevy Silverado.
- Officers arrested the suspect in the kidnapping case this week. The suspect displayed a gun to get the victim to exit a bus with him. The victim was able to quickly board another bus and security footage helped identify and arrest the suspect.
- Nine vehicle prowls or vandalisms reported. The suspect in one case was arrested after a security company witnessed and reported the prowl and provided footage to officers. He was located nearby. In another case, security footage helped identify the suspect and charges were referred.
