The Olympia softball team bounced back from a tough first two games last weekend and crushed Spanaway Lake 26-6 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Stevens Field. The Bears scored eight runs in the second inning and a staggering 14 runs in the third inning.
In the past three outings against Spanaway Lake, Olympia has outscored the Sentinels 56-9.
Olympia scored the first two runs on a two-run blast by Sydney Potvin in the first inning. Spanaway Lake got one run back in the first on an error before taking a 3-2 lead via a two-run single.
From the start of the bottom half of the second inning, it was all Bears. Olympia scored eight runs in the frame on three hits, five walks and one hit batter. Abby Crawford picked up two RBIs with a double, and Katelyn Pearson added two of her own with a single.
Spanaway Lake tallied three runs in the third to cut it to 10-6, but that was as close as the game would get for the rest of the day. The Bears crossed home plate 14 times in the third, fueled by a three-run bomb from Aliyah Eberle, a total of six hits, seven walks and three hit batters.
Crawford finished with a team-high five RBIs, while Sam Graham scored five runs.
“The girls had a lot of patience at the plate, and it paid off,” Olympia head coach Drew Wellner said. “All in all, the pitchers did pretty well working through the tough weather conditions.”
Olympia (1-2, 1-0 South Puget Sound League) is scheduled to host Yelm Thursday night in the second of its three straight home games at Stevens Field.
