The Olympia boys tennis team battled with Bethel but came out on top 3-2 at home Thursday afternoon.
Olympia swept all three doubles matches, and its two singles matches went to third sets and surpassed two hours.
In the top doubles match, Olympia brothers Jerry Yen and Brian Yen sailed past Adrian Salazar and Scott Higley 6-0, 6-0. James Smith and Evan Guan of Olympia defeated Eugene Morgan and Zander Berry 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Brandon Phan and Tristan Reck of Olympia handled Gavin Carmichael and Wyatt Toralba 6-2, 6-2.
In the first singles match, Olympia’s Nigel Kikuta and Bethel’s Jacob Lathrop played a marathon, but Lathrop triumphed 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (10-12). Henry Li of Olympia lost to Bethel’s Luke Johnson 6-3, 5-7, 0-1 (4-10).
“It was a great first win for the boys. They were super pumped,” Olympia head coach Chanel Nielsen said. “All of our singles matches went to third sets and were over two hours long. I was really proud of them for battling so hard. They’re starting to get more confident on the important points, which comes with more match experience.”
Olympia will travel up north to face Graham-Kapowsin Tuesday afternoon.
