The two South Thurston County rivals met in the season-opener once again and the result was similar with Rainier pulling away for a victory over Tenino, 55-35 on the road on Friday night.
Down two after the opening eight minutes, the Mountaineers (1-0) broke out of their cold spell with 12 points in the second quarter, 20 in the third and 18 in the fourth.
Peyton Sheaffer, a returning first team all-league honoree, poured in a game-high 21 points for Rainier while Ty Beckman chipped in 16 with four 3-pointers.
Tenino (0-1) was paced by Jeremiah McKague’s 13 points. The Beavers, who face Kalama at home on Wednesday, came to life in the final period, but the margin was too big to overcome.
Rainier opens the C2BL slate with Onalaska at home on Wednesday.
