Spurred by a balanced day at the net and plenty of successful passes from the back row, the Vikings picked up a 25-19, 27-25, 17-25, 25-19 victory over the Beavers on Thursday night in their home opener.
Coco Baldwin paced Mossyrock (2-0) with eight kills plus the trio of Baldwin, Brooke Schwartz and Calliope Schultz all had north of 10 digs. It had just over 20 passing errors. Schultz also recorded 16 assists.
Tenino (0-2) saw returning 1A Evergreen League MVP Katen Burkhardt record a team-best 12 kills and three aces while Peyton Songer and Sequoia Zimmer combined for 31 digs. Zimmer also dished out 13 assists and joined Burkhardt with multiple aces.
Beavers head coach Shauna Carpenter felt too many service errors in the opening two sets were costly, but added “Our energy from the bench was electric. I couldn’t be happier with them.”
Tenino will take on Napavine at home on Tuesday while Mossyrock welcomes Black Hills, also on Tuesday.
