While it was senior day for the Wolves, sophomore Haley McMahon came through in the clutch with a walk-off two-run single to lift them to an 8-7 triumph versus the Highclimbers on Monday afternoon.
After not winning a game until last week, Black Hills (2-11, 2-8 EvCo) now sits in a tie with Centralia for the final district playoff berth for the Evergreen Conference. McMahon’s heroics came after a passed ball allowed Maddie Knight to score to make it a one-run game.
On the next pitch, the single went up the middle that plated Tyler Venable and Lily Shipe. Shelton grabbed the lead with four runs in the top of the seventh. Black Hills led for much of the day, up 5-2 after three complete innings.
Hannah O’Shurak drove in the first run and scored on a wild pitch to cap a three-run first. Venable and McMahon posted back-to-back RBI singles in the third. Those two combined to go 5-for-5 with five RBIs and three walks.
O’Shurak went the distance in the circle and struck out nine on 142 pitches. The Wolves take on Aberdeen on Wednesday then take on W.F. West on Friday.
