Man crashes Maserati after driving wrong way on Interstate 5 in Thurston County

An 82-year-old man was hospitalized Friday, Sept. 4 after he crashed a Maserati while driving the wrong direction on Interstate 5 in Thurston County, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol (WSP). 

Donald H. Crist, of Redmond, Oregon, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with undisclosed injuries following the incident. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. 

According to WSP, Crist was driving a 2015 Maserati Ghibli southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 near milepost 95 at about 10:35 p.m. Friday when he struck the road’s left-side barrier. 



The Maserati came to rest on the left shoulder of the road. The car was totaled. 

In its memo, WSP noted the incident was caused by a medical emergency and said no drugs or alcohol had been involved. 

The roadway was blocked for 51 minutes.
