Despite a push in the fourth quarter spearheaded by sophomore Kaysen Bravo, the Mountaineers couldn’t complete the comeback and fell to the Ducks 59-50 in a non-league game on Saturday.
Bravo led Rainier (4-4) with 20 points. It was down 14 heading into the final eight minutes and going 5-of-10 from the free throw line in the quarter was not enough to overcome the deficit. Lexi Beckman added 12 points for the Mountaineers.
“Our girls know we can compete with teams in this league if we hold them defensively,” Rainier head coach Jordan Hunt said. “All of our losses we started a big comeback, but we gotta find a way to finish the job.”
Rainier has another non-league contest on its schedule, facing 2A Black Hills on Monday. It opens C2BL play on Thursday in a district title rematch against Adna.
