Two drivers, including a Lacey man, were injured in a two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma on Friday.

The crash was reported at approximately 9 a.m. on Feb. 13, according to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) incident report. The roadway was partially blocked for two hours and 19 minutes.

A blue 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by Rayland P. Towai, 30, of Tacoma was reportedly driving southbound on I-5 near the Port of Tacoma when he struck the barrier on the left, overcorrected and crashed into a white 2018 Ram 1500 driven by Barwee G. Brown, 41, of Olympia.

Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.

Barwee was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, while Towai was transported to Allemore Hospital.

Towai was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, according to WSP, which has determined that speed was the cause of the crash.

Drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision, according to WSP. Neither of the drivers were facing possible charges related to the crash as of Friday afternoon.
