Lacey firefighters rescued a mother and four children from an apartment fire early Saturday morning.
Three of the occupants were treated for minor smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported, according to Lacey Fire District 3.
“Area and apartment access and familiarity, coupled with rapid response, recognition and initial decisions by company officers and their crews truly made the difference in saving lives and limiting property loss,” Lacey Fire District 3 said in a social media post.
The fire was reported on the second floor of an apartment building in the 1500 block of College Street Southeast at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17.
At the time, the five occupants of the apartment were trapped by fire and smoke on a second floor balcony, according to Lacey Fire District 3.
Responding firefighters quickly deployed ladders and evacuated all occupants from the balcony, while another crew began tackling the fire.
The fire “was extinguished quickly and contained to the unit and room of origin,” Lacey Fire District 3 reported.
