Concerned citizens and local agencies banded together to rescue an injured bald eagle from southbound Interstate 5 in the Tumwater area on Sunday.

The bird was clipped by a semi-truck and became stuck between the highway and a retaining wall, according to information posted by Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue in Olympia.

Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and concerned citizens stopped to help the eagle, with a Fish and Wildlife officer ultimately bringing the bird to Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue.

The rescue reported Monday evening that the eagle “is fiesty, eating, and has no palpable injuries,” and would be transported to Twin Harbors Wildlife Center for radiographs and continued care.

“A big thank you to Raindancer and everyone else who helped with this eagle. We look forward to it's arrival tomorrow!” Twin Harbors Wildlife Center said in a comment to Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue’s post on the rescue.

The bird was found on the right shoulder of I-5 near Trosper Road between 5 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15,  Washington State Patrol Trooper Kameron Watts told The Olympian on Tuesday, noting that it wasn’t known whether the bird was struck mid-flight or was hit on the ground.
